Welcome to Frothtown.
Your cartoon surf fantasy.
Around the same time some bloke discovered he could fly a noisy drone over a bunch of peace-loving surfers and get a million followers on the socials, we realised surfing content had become plain vanilla.
“A village of surf enthusiasts who draw uncanny observations on their endless pursuit of stoke.”
Beautiful barrelling waves and mello longboarder imagery looks sexy AF. But let’s never forget that a surfer’s actual life is packed full of uncoordinated wetsuit removals, embarrassing wipeouts, dinged boards and relentless thoughts about shark-infested waters.
Surfing doesn’t need to be so serious either. Some people go surfing mainly for the pub lunches afterwards, or the chats out in the lineup. Some would happily drive an hour for the chance of catching a single wave on an over-crowded point break. And as every grommet, kook and weekend warrior will agree, surfing is a hard art to master.
This is why we created Frothtown. A village of surf enthusiasts who draw uncanny observations on their endless pursuit of stoke. Our drawings (like most surfing abilities) are far from perfect. But that’s just the way we like it. Join us as we fantasise about a world where surfing is sometimes wonderful but always weird.
Meet the Cartoonists
Luke Sweet
Luke has been learning to surf for about 30 years. From a young age he’s been perfecting his backhand and eaves-dropping on local legends handing out free tips to the Groms. Most days you’ll find him on a shoreline doing unnecessary warm-up stretches and pondering unhelpful quotes like “Happiness comes in waves”.
Jake Loughridge
Jake loves a good carpark check. The next peak can always be fewer mob and gnarlier. But more often than not, the first break is the best break, and just getting wet means you are a winner-winner-chicken-dinner! As a lover of the water, sometimes tucking into a closeout beachy is as good as making a barrel at Chopes!
